At an antique show this past weekend, I found this rather odd teddy bear, made in Ireland by Pedigree in the 1950s. He has such a strange conformation, with those loooong legs and itty bitty stumpy arms:
And his head is even odder, described by several of my teddy bear guide books as "bulbous", with gigantic, oversized eyes and a huge schnoz made of molded felt. I've never seen a bear with features that fill so much of his face:
Tracy,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me if this teddy bear had a manufaturer's tag to tell you if it is a Pedigree Bear? I recently purchased on and I'm trying to find out who made him. A friend who is an avid collector said she thought he was made by Pedigree. He's different that this one for sure! This is a very unique teddy.
I have a some photos of my new bear on my blog:

If you know a thing or two about vintage bears, maybe you might have some ideas?
Have a great day!
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteYes, he had the remains of a tag that I'm sure was Pedigree. I'll take a look at your blog and see if I can help!
Hi, dear Tracy! How are you today? Thank you so much for so interesting blog. I've got a few questions for you. Does your bear stuffed something unusual? Does it have any hard things inside? How tall is it? The growth of my bears - 29 cm Are the words on the tag blue color? Thanks in advance for your replay.
ReplyDeleteI like my bear Pedigree, but it has some problems. it lost much of mohair, has no nose and it has something hard in his stomach...
Best regards, Natalia
Hi Natalia! I've since traded away this bear, but he was about 16 inches tall. The words on the tag were blue, and the hard thing in his stomach may be a growler or squeaker that no longer works. A lot of these Pedigree bears are missing their noses, as yours is, because they were just glued on. Over time the glue dried out too much and the noses fell off. Poor bears!
