Vintage Troll Planter

I stopped by a barn sale last weekend, and was about to leave after disappointedly poking about the rusty tools and old gardening things when I spotted this guy peeking out from behind a flowerpot. Yay: a vintage troll! I'm always on the hunt for those, and they're getting harder and harder to find.

Once I picked him up, it made sense that he was with the gardening things after all, as he is actually a planter. The ceramic troll, about 5 inches tall, is hollow, and was meant to hold a small plant, the foliage of which would eventually form his "hair." Brilliant, really...

  1. So are you going with rye grass or something more crazy? Haha.

  2. Um, petunias? Daffodils? I'm sure I can't imagine what you might be referring to...hey, wait a minute: are you suggesting my troll has a drug problem?!

  3. You didn't hear it from me!! I'm just the messenger. That troll there is a bad influence. Just kidding. I was thinking of plants to go in it as a planter.

  4. You know, now that I consider it, I feel it is entirely possible that my troll may have had, in the past, "crazy" substances planted in him: the barn sale I got him from was run by an ex-biker guy and a former hippie chick. (Actually, although they were in their 50s-60s, they still looked like a biker and hippie chick.) It was a bit odd to see them living on the beautiful country estate the barn was part of. He told us they had opted for a quiet country life now that they had "retired".

Anywho...I'm going to go with your first suggestion, and plant him with rye grass. I think that will look most like troll hair. :0)

  6. You're right, pp: (legal!) herbs would look great in him, too. I'll post a picture of him all planted once I've decided.
