Pink & Green Peng Peng Bear
This funky teddy bear, just 5 inches tall, was handmade by one of my favorite artists, Peng Peng of Chicago. Wearing a pink dress made from a little sock, she is crafted from tie-dyed green and cream mohair and has tiny glass eyes. She reminds me of peppermints and wintergreen, and was a perfect Christmas present this year.

Benjamin Blue
Benjamin Blue is a wee little 4 inch ted made by one of my favorite artists, Peng Peng. She even made his teeny tiny outfit and dashing red scarf!
BB is so small, he can fit in the palm of your hand or slip easily into a pocket. I frequently sneak him with me into meetings that way, as it's just comforting having him along.

Mr. Cranberrie
Meet Mr.Cranberrie, a wee little four inch ted made by bear artist extraordinaire Peng Peng. (She made his tiny outfit, too!) This very Christmasy-looking bear was, in fact, a holiday gift this year.
For a sense of just how small he is,
Mr. C. is pictured sitting on a dollhouse porch.

Patchy & Purple Peng Peng Bears
The miniature teds made by Chicago-based artist Peng Peng always amaze me. These two are done in one of my favorite styles, "stick bears" with giant heads on teeny, stick thin bodies, just 5 and 1/4 inches tall.
It was obviously love at first sight for these two.

A Halloweeny Peng Peng Bear
Just in time for Halloween came my latest Peng Peng bear: Mr. Eightball, 4 inches of hand-dyed black licorice colored mohair, green glass eyes, and mischievous grin. (I added the tiny vintage jack o' lantern, and made the hat and bow tie...can you tell the hat was once the thumb of my left glove?)
Mr. Eightball and Jack hang out on the front porch.

Pink and Purple Peng Peng Bear
It's always a happy day when a new Peng Peng bear arrives.
Clearly, she agrees.
Peng Peng, one of my very favorite artists, makes unique and beautifully crafted small teds. Petunia, just 5 inches tall, features hand-dyed two-toned mohair, a tiny, stripey dress, and a fantastic face inspired by the classic British bear, Master Teddy.
Pink and purple Petunia poses prettily...

New Peng Peng Bear
It's always a happy day when a new bear by Peng Peng, one of my fave artists, arrives. Please meet "Saltine," a mere 3 3/4 inches of crazy joy.
Here she is with her new friends, two color coordinated vintage trolls:

Peng Peng Bears in Pink and Bloo
Just got a couple of new tiny teds in bright springtime colors by one of my favorite artists, Peng Peng. They feature lusciously colored mohair, quirky faces, and adorable little outfits. The blue bear is just 4 inches tall!
"We're feeling rosy and blue today, respectively..."
Here they are with their new friends, some of Mattel's vintage Upsy Downsy characters:

Teddy Bear Christmas
Recently, I found this tiny, 5 inch tall vintage aluminum Christmas tree, dating from the early 1960s. Maybe it was intended for a funky, modernist dollhouse. It's now the perfect size for my little Peng Peng polar bear.

A New Peng Peng Bear!
Look who just arrived in the mail: "Candy," one of the latest creations of teddy bear artist extraordinaire, Peng Peng. Just 4 1/4 inches tall, the fully jointed little bear features hand-dyed mohair in a luscious shade of green, milk glass googly eyes, and handmade booties with a tie-dyed dress. Candy is just delicious!

Dotty Teddy Bears
Just got another bear made by Peng Peng, teddy artist extraordinaire: Domino, this little 4 1/2 inch panda wearing her fab polka-dotted dress. Here she is with her new friend, my 1950s British Merrythought teddy who is also into dotty fashions.
I love the Merrythought's big nose:

Christmas Loot 2009
Well, the Christmas bacchanalia is over. Here's a glimpse of some of this year's loot: vintage Barbies, antique doll furniture and dishes, a tin toy grocery store, teddy bears, books, and a new camera (thanks to my brother Jody, the quality of pictures here will be much improved). Details in the following posts!
Hope everyone had a very happy holiday!

New Teddy Bears
The blue one with the big round head and googly eyes is based on an unusual 1915 British bear called Master Ted, and measures about 5 1/4 inches tall.
The itty bitty black bear, done in an antiqued style and only
4 1/2 inches tall, is named Bigelow.
He's a quiet fellow...

New & Old Toys
I collect mostly antique and vintage toys, but sometimes I do find new items that appeal to me. In the latter category are the wonderfully creative, very modern miniature teddy bears made by Peng Peng of Chicago. Here are some of the bears doing their holiday housekeeping and grocery shopping for Christmas dinner. The kitchen playset and grocery stores are from the 1940s-1950s, but the bears seem to fit right in!

Peng Peng Buddha Bear
This tiny teddy bear, only about 5 inches tall, is one of my favorites from the Chicago artist Peng Peng. Peng Peng makes this bear in an incredible variety of materials and designs, all called "Buddha Bears" because of their short stature and portly proportions. (You can see more at her website: http://www.peng-peng.com/.) My little Buddha Bear likes to visit this vintage 1950s toy refrigerator, complete with some original items. Looks like he's got a little box of ice cream at the moment. (Maybe that's why he looks the way he does...)

Birthday Bears
While decorating for my birthday party last weekend, I made this arrangement of vintage toys on an antique cake stand. The big bear wearing the straw hat is a funny English teddy from the 1930s; next to him is an old mechanical bear who "drinks" from his red wooden cup; down in front are a 1920s Steiff duck on wheels and a miniature Steiff lion; to the left is an original set of Bill Ding Clowns; perched just below the mechanical bear is a tin-faced Shuco monkey; and riding the duck is Ting-Ting, a fabulous bear made by teddy artist Peng Peng from Chicago.
